About Detroit Impact
Since 1991, Detroit Impact has served as a vital youth center on Detroit’s west side, dedicated to teaching, mentoring, guiding, and inspiring young people to become responsible leaders and engaged community members. Founded under the vision of Executive Director Calvin Colbert, the organization has developed innovative programs built on two core strategies—social engagement and crisis management—and four cornerstone areas of growth: leadership, recreation, literacy, and second-chance initiatives. Through safe spaces, mentorship, job readiness training, violence intervention, literacy support, and recreational opportunities, Detroit Impact empowers youth to make positive life choices and discover their potential. Over three decades, the center has partnered with parents, schools, churches, local businesses, law enforcement, and community stakeholders to provide a strong network of support, becoming a beacon of hope and opportunity that uplifts both youth and families while transforming the broader community.
